Importance of a Foundational Framework
God has called us to be disciples. As we continue as disciples, there are many teachers, topics and lessons we will study. The amount of information can sometimes be overwhelming! Because of this huge volume of information it is very important that we establish a foundational framework by grasping God’s overall plan – we must see the big picture. The Apostle Paul voiced this concept in his prayer for the Ephesians, praying that they would “…be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height” (see Ephesians 3:18). Consider this proverb:
Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; By knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches. –Proverbs 24:3-4 (NKJV)
Once this foundational framework is established by understanding, we can then build it out and fill its rooms with pleasant things as we gather more knowledge. This framework becomes an information management system making each piece of information accessible, applicable, and a functioning part of the whole. The result is order and direction in our studies which helps us decide which information is good, how to prioritize it, or whether it should be considered at all.
The earlier in our Christian walk we establish this foundation the better. But it is never too late, so let’s begin. There are three parts to this course of study.
Direction & Purpose
The general framework of Destiny 101 is built around two passages of scripture that give us direction and purpose. First is John 8:14:
Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going …” – John 8:14
Here we see a practical basis for Jesus’ confidence and identity: He knew where He came from and where He was going. In other words, He knew His destiny and was focused on it, even if He had no other earthly witness to back Him up.
…the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. – Hebrews 6:1-2
This provides us with more than a list of doctrinal topics that are foundational, it is also a strategic plan that we can see being worked out in history and revealing the path of destiny.
I pray this training material will illuminate your understanding and put you on the path to your destiny. Let the Journey Begin…
